Musical changes

Dear St. Mary's Family,

It is with great joy that I announce to you a very important change in the life of our congregation.  As I'm sure you're aware, our parish has been worshiping using music and musical instruments that are woefully out-of-date.  Effective next Sunday, we will be improving our Sunday morning worship experience by retiring our antiquated and ineffective music program and taking up more relevant, contemporary music that will be sure to bring in the young people!

In order to bring our parish into the 21st century, we will need a new acoustic guitar, bass guitar, drum set, and sound system, along with a screen that can be lowered from the rood.  This important work will be funded by pawning off the organ pipes and hymnals.  Our two primary staff musicians, Dr. Maglione and Dr. Wilcken, have happily resigned to make available the funds needed to hire the band and AV technicians.

Out with the Gregorian chant, and in with the strobe lights!  By Easter, we will ready to sing "Shine, Jesus Shine" in a way that truly honors our Lord!

Peace,
Fr. Charles

I fell for that before I realized this is April Fool’s Day. At least I hope that’s what it is.

When will you be announcing the rearrangement of the pews for the installation of the big fire pit in the Nave?

WOW! We'll start immediately, looking for a new church home - and I'll expect the current members of St. Mary's to end up where we do. We'll certainly miss you & your sermons! It's been a glorious two years. This is certainly a sad April Fool's Day for the Schaefers!

If this were actually happening at St. Mary's, I'd be following you!

You won’t recognize my name, but for a full season (year minus summer) when Mother Lyon was there, I officiated at Morning Prayer every Thursday.
What you posit in your observance of April 1 happened at the Episcopal church geographically closest to me, and I have never darkened its door for a church service, though there have been diocesan events in the basement and a concert by a real choir (NOT a “praise band”) that I did attend there.
Keep the faith—ours! Whether anyone uses them or not, there are pages of generic Protestant churches—and RC parishes that burn Palestrina and Vittoria every weekend—as it is.

Always said it hard to toe tap and hand raise to classical sacred music. Bring on Chris Tomlinson, Casting Crowns and Toby Mac!

Fr. Charles Everson's love for music and liturgy led him to a suburban parish as a simple chorister, and as of late, to St. Mary's as a priest. He feels called to share the love of Jesus Christ with a broken world in desperate need of hope and reconciliation.
