What is the Vestry?
In an Episcopal Church, the Vestry is the elected governing body and legal representative of the parish, responsible for managing its finances, building, and leadership, while also supporting the Rector and the church's mission. The Senior Warden is the primary elected lay leader, serving as a liaison between the parish and the Rector, presiding over Vestry meetings in the Rector's absence, and playing a key role in the church's leadership and governance. The Senior Warden is selected by the Rector. The Junior Warden is an elected lay leader who oversees the upkeep of the building and grounds, and serves as a support to the Rector and Senior Warden, presiding at Vestry meetings in their absence. The Junior Warden is elected by the Vestry. All Vestry members are elected by the parish at the annual meeting in January to three-year-terms.
