Philip first came to St. Mary's during his Methodist confirmation class in the early 90's to experience high church. After many years serving as a church musician and in youth ministry, he returned to St. Mary's and was later confirmed in 2013. He volunteers as a Eucharistic Minister & Visitor, serves on the Altar Guild, and is a Diocesan Convention delegate. He also helps with hospitality, outreach, and tech support. On December 1, 2024, Fr. Sean appointed Philip as Senior Warden after serving on the Vestry as Junior Warden. During his tenure as Junior Warden, Philip oversaw several renovations and repairs to the building and grounds. Some of these projects included renovation of the Rector's office, kitchen, restrooms, conversion to LED lights, security upgrades, HVAC repair, roof repair, painting, furniture refresh, and was the architect of the Rinehart Memorial Garden.
At the diocesan level, Philip currently serves on the Diocesan Council, Vice Chair of the Northwest-Metro Deanery, Property Committee, and the Emergency Planning Committee. In 2024-2025, he served on the 9th Bishop's Consecration Committee in charge of security, facilities, and logistics. At the national level, Philip served as co-chair for the 2025 Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Episcopal Clergy and Lay Leadership Retreat hosted by the Diocese of West Missouri at the Cathedral in Kansas City and previously attended AAPI Retreats in Austin (TX) and Portland (OR) in leadership roles. He continues his AAPI work on the planning team for the 2026 AAPI Retreat in Seattle (WA).
Philip was adopted by his parents from Seoul and arrived in Kansas City when he was six-months-old. He graduated from Baker University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Minor in Mass Communications. Philip is a member of the Kansas City Society for Contemporary Photography and Chorus Kansas City. In his free time, he enjoys visiting the Colorado mountains, snow skiing, and traveling abroad.
