Mr. Justin Smith
Sacristan/Master of Ceremonies
Justin came to St. Mary’s in August 2016 with an extensive background in liturgical ceremonies. As a former Roman Catholic, he received his formal education while being a novice in the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius, a religious order in Chicago IL.
At St. Mary’s, Justin has the important role of assisting the Priest-in-Charge with liturgical planning as well as training, scheduling and coordinating members of the altar party. He oversees the execution of liturgical acts and gestures within the ceremonies during our services, by guiding, cuing and instructing. In addition to these activities, he oversees the inventory, organization and maintenance of the liturgical instruments and vestments in the sacristy. This includes coordinating parish clean up days, brass polishing and the seasonal decorating.
Justin is currently in higher education, working towards a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Communications. He anticipates to graduate in spring 2024 and has aspirations to pursue ordained ministry. Additionally, he is the parish administrator at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Overland Park, KS. Previously, Justin worked in Floral Design for 10 years, owning an event company. And he also comes from a long background in healthcare.
In his free time, he enjoys quality conversation with friends and family, being in nature and doing home renovation projects and other DIY work.
