Mr. Philip Lofflin
Jr. Warden
My journey to St. Mary's began in the spring of 1993. I was going through confirmation at a local United Methodist church. Part of the confirmation process was to visit St. Mary's to experience mass and see both churches share the same creeds, Scriptures and commitments to a Christian life. Several years later, I would expand my involvement to include being a youth sponsor, mentor and choir director. Being a mentor allowed me to continue visiting St. Mary's once a year. The mass, music and experience made a lasting impression on me.
Twenty years later, I was looking for a new church to call home and started visiting St. Mary's on a regular basis. I knew I had found the church I was looking for and was confirmed in 2013. After being absent from St. Mary's for a time, I returned after Deacon Lynda's ordination and encouragement from Roz. I am so glad I did. This past summer, I was able to volunteer at the church and help with our outreach ministry. I also worked on several maintenance repairs (with guidance from our Junior Warden, Don Clark) and made upgrades to the security of the building.
I majored in Sociology at Baker University and work for the Shawnee Mission School District. I was adopted from South Korea when I was six months old and have called Kansas City home my entire life. In my spare time, I enjoy snow skiing, traveling (especially to Europe) and playing the piano. As a new Vestry member, I want to bring my leadership to the table with a focus on respecting our history and continuing our bright path forward.
